Frequently Asked Questions

How long is this project?

The project started in April and races are held in February. If we win that, we go to the National Finals and ultimately the International Finals. We have worked incredibly hard on this, but we think we could get to National Finals, if not Internationals.

Can I help and if so, how?

One way to help is to sponsor us. To do this email sponsorship.vulcanracingteam@gmail.com.

The details for sponsorship vary, but you can give us around £30 or provide a service for us. In return, we would represent your company in our project, and keep you updated on our progress.

What is the car made from and powered by?

The car is made from a polystyrene style foam that we shape using a CNC router. The car is then powered by a carbon dioxide cylinder. The fastest time ever recorded was 0.977 seconds, which is incredibly fast down a 20m track!

What happens in the finals?

First, we present our car to the parc ferme, which is an area that stores our cars so we can't tamper with them. They are also checked vigorously for regulation adherence. Next, we have our portfolio checked and graded out of 200 points, which is considerable. After this, we present our car and pitch it the judges, who grade our verbal presentation out of 120 points. Once this is done, we return to race our car against other cars in our class. Our time last year was 1.564 seconds which we were very happy with.
