We've been to Regionals, and came back with a trophy and an award!
The Race
Above is a picture of our car about to race and we came second overall in our class with a time of 1.771 seconds! As you can see, most of our car is black with the wings glowing a bright orange. Unfortunately, it was several grams underweight so the blue is the Blue Tac we had to make up the weight with. However, we're really happy with our results and it was a great time!
Pit Display and Enterprise
Our Pit Display was mainly our renderings of the car and some images of our progress, such as spreadsheets and other documents. Our Enterprise portfolio was all about our marketing and how that was a success. The judges were very impressed and it was one of the reasons we got our award, which is explained later. We also had mugs and pens that showed our logos and name. The portfolio was full of pictures showing our email account, spreadsheet and survey including results. This was really fun to put together as well as we got to see how much effort we put into our project.
Design and Engineering Portfolio
This portfolio is all about our design process and was full of designs from our most basic to the final design and engineering drawings. The judge commended us on our use of software to create so many designs and asked lots of questions that we answered well and they were overall impressed.
Verbal Presentation
We went into the presentation room really nervous, but luckily our practice paid off and we came out confident that we'd done well. We covered our motivation, our difficulties, where we did well and what we'd change next time. The only problem was that we went slightly too fast so we may have lost points on this.
Our Awards and Trophy
We came away with two awards: Innovative Thinking and 3rd Place Development Class. The Innovative thinking award was for our suvey that some of our readers may have completed. This was really good and was a great reward for our hard work for the last two terms. The third place was for obvious reasons, but was a great reward again as we did really well against students who were at A level at the moment.
Summary
